Below is list of brewing supplies that you will need in order to brew forty-eight bottles of beer:
1 x 19 litre brew kettle
1 x 24 litre glass carboy for primary fermentation
1 x 23 litre glass carboy for secondary fermentation
1 x airlock
1 x rubber bung
1 x siphon
1 x long metal spoon
1 x temperature measuring device
48 x empty bottles
48 x bottle caps
1 x bottle capping machine.
You will also need some general sanitising equipment. Including a bottle washer, brushes and detergent. Be kind to the environment and only purchase eco-friendly detergents for santising your bottles and equipment. Special bottle brushes can be purchased, which are able to get to all the nooks and crannies inside the beer bottle.
Optional equipment can be purchased to assist with various aspects of the beer making process. A wort chiller enables the temperature of the wort to be rapidly decreased to the appropriate temperature, ready for the yeast to be added.
This accelerated cooling helps to stop the yeast from spoiling and becoming infected. If you are on a budget, the same effect can achieved by submersing the brewing kettle into water, filled with ice.
A hydrometer is another optional piece of brewing equipment. A hydrometer measures the specific gravity of a liquid. It is used to monitor the beer during the fermentation process and to determine alcohol levels, so that the brewer knows when it’s a suitable time to bottle the beer.
